Teaching fraction division with materials is a phenomenal way for children to discover the real relationship to fraction multiplication, but the problems that we can give to the children are limited by the fact that most wooden divided skittles only go as small as 1/4 or 1/5.
This downloadable .pdf has photographs of a unit skittle with a color-coded fraction superimposed on it to represent fractional skittles from fifths to tenths. It also includes blanks so that you can write in whatever fraction you wish. Expand the number and types of problems that you can give the children and lead them to the real reason that “invert and multiply” works!
