Science Rocks!

$70.00

Bring Physical and Earth Science alive with 66 memorable lessons using items found in your kitchen and garage – no specialized lab equipment needed!  Lessons are thoughtfully arranged to progress from concrete concepts (physical science experiments and demonstrations) to abstract concepts (models and diagrams of phenomena in Earth and Space Science).  Each lesson lists applicable Next Generation Science Standards that are addressed by the lesson and offers innumerable extensions for the future scientists in your classroom.

Science Rocks! includes:

  • presentations, including fun activities to awaken and link prior knowledge
  • tickets for use in select lessons  (for vocabulary or sorting)
  • diagrams and charts
  • hot links to websites for photographs, videos, activities, and more information
  • experiments – most need no specialized equipment
  • follow-up options
  • background information for guides

Lessons are designed for upper elementary ages, but could be useful for middle school students as well as children as young as 8.  This album includes lessons from our Users’ Guide to Physics of the Earth that have been updated to reflect recent advances in scientific thinking AND many new lessons. Each lesson has been indexed to Next Generation Science Standards.

Description

Description

This album includes lessons on

  • Matter and Energy
  • Astronomy and Space Exploration (Our Dynamic Universe)
  • Light and Sound Energy
  • Mechanical Energy
  • Earth Science (Our Dynamic Earth)
  • Chemical Energy
  • Electricity and Magnetic Energy
  • Air and Water (Our Dynamic Atmosphere and Hydrosphere)

This spiral-staircase curriculum follows the Montessori principle of teaching from concrete experiences to abstract concepts.  For example, static and current electricity studies arc (pun intended) to studies of weather; experiments with simple machines and the study of forces enhance understanding of the effects of seemingly invisible forces within the Earth like faulting and folding.

Concepts and demonstrations are comprehensive and accessible for novice and seasoned science instructors alike.  Each lesson has a materials list, information for prior learning, step by step instructions, and follow-up material for students to synthesize what they have learned.  A bonus is the blackline masters included to create several materials of your own!
